Hormone Regulation Acupuncture

Acupuncture has been used for hormonal imbalance issues for at least 3,000 years and is only now being accepted worldwide. The mechanism by how it works is very interesting and can be repeated over and over again for a wide variety of hormonal and balance issues. When the needle is inserted at very specific spots on the body it produces strong nerve signals which ascend up to the brain and stimulate structures like the hypothalamus. These targeted structures in the brain enhance the release of hormones and neuropeptides throughout the whole body but also to targeted organs. Certain areas of the brain target precise spinal segments- and by extension any viscera or organ that plays a part in the expression or release of that hormone.

For example a lot of hormonal imbalance issues occur because of the adrenal glands and central nervous system fatigue, which are the glands that regulate functions in our body that have to do with blood pressure regulation, stress reaction and relaxation, as well as sexual function; and, the proper higher level functioning of our brain and cognition. By treating the central nervous system we can replenish depleted hormone levels and all the functions they carry out. The example above shows how master hormones of the body can trickle down to all of the functioning hormones that secrete within our blood system and cells.

I’m particularly interested and effective in the treatment of various hormonal issues because I’ve learned how to balance and treat the centers of the brain associated with those imbalances as well as utilizing a medical director who can prescribe blood draws so we can test your blood specimen. This is paramount- to track our progress and adjust our treatments to get the optimal results. Without this last factor I believe acupuncture is still effective in treating hormonal imbalances but becomes difficult in the long-term management of them without any specimen readings. For these reasons acupuncture is extremely effective but requires the insight of blood testing and hormonal testing from other western modalities which is why East to West Wellness Center has specialists from both fields.
